Living in Kiama

 

Over 20,000 people live in the Municipality of Kiama, Kiama Downs, Jamberoo, and Gerringong.  Kiama is a central point for travel to a number of business centres and it boasts of easy access to these areas via its network of efficient highways and railways.

 

For instance Kiama is located ninety minutes south of Sydney and just three hours away from Canberra by road. Sydney Airport is available for quick and regular internal flights as well as international flights. 

 

In addition there are daily flights from neighbouring Albion Park to Melbourne.

Out and About in Kiama

 

Accommodation - The Kiama Municipality offers a variety of accommodation, from quiet country retreats, B & B’s, self catering or a range of hotels to suit your lifestyle.

 

Dining Out - There are many Café’s and Restaurants in the area to chose from, either licensed or BYO.  Whether your preference is mainly fish, traditional Australian, Thai, Italian, or Chinese cuisine, there is something to suit your taste.

 

Beaches & Rivers - Jones, Bombo, Black, Surf, Kendalls, Easts, Werri, Walkers and Seven Mile Beaches, as well as Minnamurra River, Werri Lagoon and Crooked River. There are also four natural pools at Black Beach and Blowhole Point, Kiama, and south Werri Beach and Boat Harbour Gerringong.

 

Rainforests & Scenery - There are many charming spots where you can walk and take in the view, for instance the beautiful Minnamurra Rainforest Park just west of Jamberoo or the Illawarra Fly tree top walk are not to be missed.

 

Walking Trails - There are several marked and unmarked tracks now exist around the coastal reserves. These include - Minnamurra Headland, Cathedral Rocks, Bombo, and Black Beach.

 

Heritage Trails - A good place to start would be at the Pilot's Cottage Museum around the harbour and historic precinct of Kiama.

 

Clubs - Include Kiama Leagues Club, Kiama Bowling & Recreations Club, Kiama Golf Club, Gerringong Golf Club, Jamberoo Golf Club, Jamberoo Bowling Club, and Gerringong Bowling & Recreation Club.

 

Pubs - Include Jamberoo Pub, Kiama Inn (Tory’s) and The Grand Hotel

 

Horse Racing - Choose from 30 Race Days a year at Kembla Grange.  Only 20 minutes by car, Kembla Grange offers first class thoroughbred horse racing with modern grand stand and winning post champagne function facilities.

 

The annual Kiama Lions Race Day draws most of the municipality of Kiama to Kembla Grange for a festival of fashion and fun. Other major events include Melbourne Cup, Ladies Day, and Sensational Sunday.

 

Boat Hire - Boab Boat Hire offers trailered boats for you to tow, and drive yourself. Delivery service also provided.  Go on chartered game fishing and whale watching vessels, rent a self drive ocean going fishing vessel, and launch your own boat from the various boat ramps.

 

Take Away - There are seafood, Chinese, Thai, Italian and Pizza takeaways and home delivery options in abundance.

 

Wineries - Local Wineries include Crooked River Wines, Gerringong and Coolangatta Estate Winery, Shoalhaven Heads.
